Trying
to live the philosophy
In
keeping with Henry Beston's words (see SkyLines
Philosophy link), I
try to care for all of the gentle creatures on the
farm, and for
the land itself, with wisdom, intelligence and
compassion.
One
of the guiding principles at SkyLines Farm is
avoiding the use of chemicals whenever possible -
in raising the sheep, in managing their pastures,
and in tending my personal gardens as well.
I
believe this is good for the health and welfare of
the animals, good for us, and good for the planet.
The links below provide more details.

Organic health care
& pasture management practices
Since I started raising sheep in 1992, I've been
developing and refining a set of management practices that
keep SkyLines sheep in superb health without depending on
chemical "quick fixes" like antibiotics, hormones, or
pesticides in the form of chemical wormers.
SkyLines Farm meets and
exceeds the current management requirements for USDA organic
certification, and our summer pastures are never treated
with any chemicals, but we don't meet the additional
requirement of providing certified organically grown feed
during the winter months. At this point in time, organic hay
and grain is just too expensive in this area to be feasible.
Hopefully that will change as the demand grows and more
farmers begin making the conversion to organic.

SkyLines Farm, follow the links below.
